Corporate Manslaughter & Homicide Act 2007

On 26th July 2007 the Corporate Manslaughter and Homicide Act 2007 was passed by the Government. It makes it easier to prosecute organisations when their gross negligence leads to death. Previously, an organisation could be prosecuted at common law for manslaughter.

There have already been successful prosecutions against haulage companies under existing legislation. At ICON we recognized the threat to hauliers quite some time ago and, after working with the industry, we introduced the ICON programme. ICON is a practical solution that cuts through all of the guidance which is circulating within the industry and does away with the needless costs spent on one-off consultancy fees.

As Ben Morris, Director of Howard Tenens, says ICON instills confidence in both our customers and workforce that we are taking the necessary steps to uphold the highest levels of safety

Not only does ICON give hauliers the tools to operate safely, it also provides them with the evidence should they need to prove this to the H&SE, Police, Traffic Commissioners, VOSA etc

Grahame Cook, Managing Director of ICON Vehicle Safety Ltd says Hauliers who are following the ICON programme have no need to fear current or intended legislation of this type
